Dodgy engine worth replacing?
I recently bought an old Ford Ka for not very much money. It's had its engine replaced with a middle-aged one as the previous owner managed to grind the original after they added no oil! But I've just taken the Ka to a garage and they say the new engine fitting is dodgy. There's silicone sealant everywhere on the engine block, including where it meets the clutch. There's also a massive oil leak which meant the entire underneath of the car was wet. The mechanic said it wasn't worth my money fixing it as there was no guarantee he could solve the leak problem. Given that the car is worth £600, should I spend £££s getting another engine fitted? Is using sealant that bad a repair job or might the car go for another few months?
1 masive oil leak...a quart/liter every how many miles,,,,,every 500 miles? keep a 12 pack in trunk and keep driving untill dead...every 100 miles,,,junk it
