My Toshiba laptop 5205-s505 with a Mobile Intel Pentium 2.2 GHz processor runs programs very slowly, help.?
I just upgraded the RAM from 512MB to 1GIG today hoping that would speed things up. It did not. I use programs for labeling, desktop publishing etc. like The Print Shop Pro Publisher Deluxe 21 and even Word. These programs always take forever (even Word) to load and come up, and then especially if I am dealing with any graphics they barely creep along. My video card is a NVIDIA GeForce4 460 Go and has 32MB 250MHz DDR external video memory. I defragment my drive, and I have downloaded disk cleaners, to clean out my cache, temp. internet files, etc. I try to keep them clean. I run spyware regularly and use Norton Anti-Virus. Is there anything I am doing wrong or could do differently to speed up these programs loading and while in use or is it just my mobile processor? I am not sure what this means, but my L2 Cache says it came with 512KB Level 2 Cache integrated on die. 400MHz Processor System Bus Clock Speed (PSB). Thank you for your help.
Well, it sounds like you're pretty well on top of it. The next thing I would try is running BoostXP (the demo version) and see if it helps:

Otherwise you might need to just cut down on programs that are memory resident. I have an older computer and don't run non-essential memory-resident programs like ITunes or GoogleDesktop.
Some people find that a clean reinstall of windows is the only thing that helps.
